21010185-1 - ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

To provide the tools to recognize the structural morphologies typical of the design work object of the laboratory, thus understanding their qualitative structural behavior through the study of simple physical-mathematical models, which are covered in the theoretical course held in parallel in the same semester of the laboratory one.

Programma

The Studio offers students the tools to tackle a medium-sized and complex project, paying particular attention to relations with the urban context and the public dimension of architecture. The theme consists in the design of a Museum in Testaccio, which involves the combination of spaces intended for temporary exhibitions, a reception and information spaces, a small room for conferences, a study center with a library, offices and services.

Modalità Erogazione

The Studio takes place in the classroom, alternating moments of discussion of the project with functional lessons to guide the design process. The lessons will focus on reading the urban context and on issues related to the design of the spaces required by the Testaccio Civic Center program (museum, library, conference rooms, etc.), with particular attention to the setting of the structural system and the management of light.

Modalità Frequenza

Attendance is compulsory for 75% of the lesson hours

Modalità Valutazione

The Studio evaluation will take into account the participation in the activities carried out in the classroom, the degree of autonomy in the management of the design process, the ability to react critically to the suggestions offered by the teachers, the quality and degree of development of the project, the quality of its presentation through drawings, models and interview.

Programma

The theme of the workshop will be the design of a building with a complex programme. Students are required to have the ability to manage activities of different nature together in a building whose structure reflects the functional needs of the individual components.

The project will have as its intervention area, a building in the abandoned industrial complex of the former Mira Lanza. Students will be asked to measure themselves with the architectural characteristics of a typical settlement in the Ostiense district.

PROGRAM FOR A START-UP INCUBATOR

● CO-WORKING AREA
● LABORATORIES/TRAINING
● GUEST QUARTERS/RESIDENCE
● SERVICES.

An incubator is a building primarily intended to bring together several companies in their early stages of life so that they can share work spaces, laboratories and consulting areas.

The idea is that, by coming together in one space, a beneficial exchange of experience and expertise as well as, of course, ideas can take place such as to create an environment in which new initiatives can flourish and initiatives already being tested can be strengthened.

An incubator is also a place where companies can develop a series of relationships both of a specialized advisory and financial economic nature, the incubator manager in fact acts as an interface between the activities taking place in it and potential investors interested in participating in the development and take-off phase of a company's activities.

During the project development phase, students should have a few main references:

5 REFERENCE THEMES:

- PLACE --- memory and urban context
- ACTIVITY -- hybridization of functions
- PEOPLE -- individual and collective
- INNOVATION -- technology, environment and energy
- IDENTITY -- relationships and communication

Each student should preliminarily proceed to the following STEPS:

STEP 1 -- SIZING AND VOLUMETRIC SCHEME
1. SIZING OF ACTIVITIES' AND MAX CROWDING
2. STRUCTURING OF AREAS AND THEIR ORGANIZATION
3. DIMENSIONAL VERIFICATION THROUGH FURNITURE USE SPACES

PHASE 2 - STUDY OF RELATIONSHIPS AND CIRCULATION FLOWS
4. DESIGN OF THE SYSTEM OF RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE AREAS
5. PRELIMINARY PLAN DISTRIBUTION SCHEME

PHASE 3 - 3D HYPOTHESIS
6. GENERAL DISTRIBUTIONAL VOLUMETRIC SCHEME OF THE BUILDING
