21010201 - DYNAMICS IN ARCHITECTURE

Provide the student with the necessary skills to apply the dynamic laws of physics to architectural-structural models, with particular attention to the characterization of the oscillatory behavior and the implications on the structural morphology. Through the use of appropriate software, these skills will allow the study of structural performance in seismic areas, of soil-structure and fluid-structure interaction.

Programma

SYLLABUS
Basics of the harmonic motion of a simple oscillator.
Damped motion, forced motion, and resonance conditions.
Diffusion of longitudinal/transverse waves in a fluid and in a solid, and in particular wave propagation in soils.
Mechanical models of simple oscillators applied to structural problems
Study of frequencies and modes of proper oscillation in structures (modal analysis)
Dynamic effects of earthquake and wind on the morphological characteristics of buildings.

Testi Adottati

The course alternates between theoretical lessons and laboratory exercises with the creation of numerical models aimed at understanding the dynamic behavior of structures in architecture. The course is face-to-face and attendance is compulsory.

Modalità Frequenza

Attendance is mandatory for 75% of the course

Modalità Valutazione

Given that the course is offered to students of both the three-year degree and the master's degrees in Architecture, the assessment will be differentiated according to the student's enrollment degree. In all cases, however, the student will be asked to write an essay on a topic of the course of his choice and the numerical models produced in the laboratory exercises will be discussed.
