On 18 February, our University hosted the Second Forum of Rectors of Italy and Uzbekistan, promoted by the Conference of Italian
University Rectors (CRUI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Universities and Research, Roma Tre University, and the Ministry of Higher
Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The Forum represents the second stage of a process launched in Uzbekistan in 2024 and saw the participation of representatives from 31 Italian
universities and 35 Uzbek universities. Rectors and delegates discussed topics such as internationalization, bilateral agreements and joint
research projects, reaffirming the strategic role of academic cooperation in strengthening university networks, promoting the mobility of students
and faculty, and building lasting institutional alliances.
The programme opened with the announcement of the 10 winning projects of the Italy–Uzbekistan joint research call, as well as the presentation of
24 new academic agreements signed by the universities, the result of contacts and collaborations initiated during the first Forum.
The event was attended by the Italian Minister of Universities and Research, Anna Maria Bernini and the Uzbek Minister of Higher
Education, Science and Innovation, Kongratbay Sharipov, who held a bilateral meeting aimed at defining the next lines of collaboration
between the two university systems.
During the initiative, the Rector, Massimiliano Fiorucci, highlighted the strategic importance of the meeting:
“The Italy–Uzbekistan Rectors’ Forum hosted today at Roma Tre is a great opportunity for exchange and internationalization. This is now the
second Forum with Uzbek Rectors and one can sense a strong desire for collaboration both in higher education and in research. Uzbekistan is a
country experiencing strong growth and expansion. Today’s event is a valuable opportunity to learn from one another and to build bridges with a
part of the world that – like us, after all – deeply believes in the value of university education.”
By hosting the Second Forum of Rectors of Italy and Uzbekistan, Roma Tre reaffirms its commitment to promoting internationalization and global
academic dialogue, strengthening the University’s role as a space for cooperation, exchange and shared development of knowledge.
