On the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a special edition of the Nuclear History Summer School, an advanced educational initiative dedicated to the international history of nuclear weapons, was held in Hiroshima.
After eleven editions held in Italy, the event was organized jointly by the Hiroshima Organization for Peace and the Department of Political Science of Roma Tre University, on behalf of the Nuclear Proliferation International History Project.
The Summer School aims to train a new generation of scholars and specialists in the field of nuclear proliferation history, positioning itself as an important international event.
The Hiroshima edition saw the participation of 15 students from 12 different countries, supported by a group of internationally renowned lecturers, among the leading experts in the field.
In addition to the usual seminar and research activities, the programme included some particularly significant moments: a visit to the Peace Park, a meeting with a hibakusha, a direct witness of the atomic bombings and a public event organized by the Hiroshima Organization for Peace and Hiroshima University. On this occasion, students and teachers from the Summer School presented their reflections and contributions on the historical significance and legacy of the nuclear age to a large and qualified audience, composed of composed of academics, students, journalists and citizens of Hiroshima.
