Attività formative
Prima settimana/First week
- Hotel Architecture and Hospitality Design: This module introduces the theme of the Summer School, emphasizing hotel architecture and its typological and formal organization.
- Definition of Spaces (FOH – Front of House/customer area, BOH – Back of House/service area): The lesson aims to articulate the public and service spaces comprising hotel building typology.
- Design Lab: Hours dedicated to translating theoretical knowledge into design proposals.
Objective: Create a concept consistent with the typological organization of the hotel. - Hotel Spaces: The lesson aims to delineate the spaces designated for guests comprising hotel building typology.
- Design Lab: Hours dedicated to translating theoretical knowledge into design proposals.
Objective: Create a concept of client spaces consistent with the typological organization of the hotel. - Rooms: Comfort & Functionality: The lesson delves into the organization of the hotel’s reference module.
- Design Lab: Hours dedicated to translating theoretical knowledge into design proposals.
Objective: Design the bedroom. - Common Spaces in Hotel Design: The lesson delves into the functional and distributive organization, as well as sizing criteria, of common areas.
- Design Lab: Hours dedicated to translating theoretical knowledge into design proposals.
Objective: Progress in the design definition of the hotel. - Welcoming Spaces and Socialization Areas: The lesson explores the functional and distributive organization, as well as sizing criteria, of socialization areas.
- Design Lab: Hours dedicated to translating theoretical knowledge into design proposals.
Objective: Progress in the design definition of the hotel. - Presentation and Discussion of Developed Concepts: Collegial review, involving the entire faculty, of the achieved results and initiation of detailed work for the following week.
Seconda settimana/Second week
- Sustainability in Hotel Architecture: Application of sustainability principles to hotel construction: at the building level (orientation, materials, form); at the interior design level (materials, colors, systems).
- Design Lab: Hours dedicated to translating theoretical knowledge into design proposals.
Objective: Application of sustainability principles to the proposed concept. - Facade Details: The hotel’s image and the internal well-being of its users depend on the facade: materials, colors, form, as well as stratigraphy, relationship between openings and closures, will be exemplified through illustration of construction details, case studies, and definition of materials, textures, and performance.
- Design Lab: Hours dedicated to translating theoretical knowledge into design proposals.
Objective: Advance in the design definition of the hotel facade - Interior Lighting Design: The hotel’s image and the internal well-being of its users also depend on the illumination of the facade and interiors. Principles of lighting technology will guide students in enhancing the value of the conceived spaces.
- Design Lab: Hours dedicated to translating theoretical knowledge into design proposals.
Objective: Design definition of the facade and interior lighting of the hotel. - Guest Experience and Technology: The lesson introduces the technological systems required in hotels according to different categories, which make the customer experience increasingly personalized.
- Design Lab: Hours dedicated to translating theoretical knowledge into design proposals.
Objective: Complete the design definition of the hotel. - Final Design Presentation: Presentation of results to the final committee, composed of the faculty and invited experts.
