Climatic Architecture
La conferenza concluderà il seminario dottorale Energia e clima a cura di Paolo Civiero e Marco Ranzato

Climatic Architecture
Architecture and urban design were traditionally shaped by climate and health, as we can read in the treatises of Vitruvius, Palladio, and Alberti. Exposure to wind and sun, as well as variations in temperature and humidity, influenced the forms of cities and buildings. These fundamental considerations were forgotten in the second half of the twentieth century, when the widespread use of fossil fuels for heating and air conditioning systems became enormous that are now contributing to global warming.
Today, faced with the reality of climate change, and seeking to withstand heatwaves, spend less energy in winter, and reduce CO₂ emissions, we propose grounding our discipline once again in the intrinsic climatic qualities of forms and materials. Air, light, heat, and humidity should be recognized as true building materials; convection, conduction, evaporation, emissivity, and thermal effusivity should become composition tools for shaping cities and buildings—tools capable of revolutionizing aesthetic and social values through the principle of dialectical materialism.
